Communication, Communication, Communication

School is back in session! Our custodial staff and maintenance team did a remarkable job cleaning every one of our schools from top to bottom. Our teachers and staff have attended professional development opportunities throughout the summer, have finished summer reading, and are ready to work with every youngster who crosses their threshold.

In this article, Mr. Richard Trudeau, Director of Technology, and I will share how the district intends to keep our families and community updated with important information throughout the year. First, it is important that we are able to connect with parents and emergency contacts in emergency situations. For that reason we ask that parents update their child’s information that we currently have on file. This can be accomplished through InfoSnap which is our online student registration system. You can access InfoSnap after logging into your Powerschool Parent Account at http://powerschool.plymouth.k12.ct.us and selecting the “2015-2016 Returning Students” link in the lower left of the navigation bar. Schools will be sending letters home with further information.

Our school and district websites continue to be a great avenue to gain information about our schools. You can find useful information on these sites and from time to time we will use our email system to direct you to specific pages. The calendar section of our websites may be especially useful to keep up with the hectic lives of our students.

School closings for bad weather is probably a given in the coming winter. I will use the SchoolMessenger Notification System to alert parents as soon as possible if we cancel or delay school. As a parent myself, I find that subscribing to a local news station where I receive an automatic text can be the fastest way to receive the information.

Finally, we have launched both a Facebook page and a Twitter feed so that as a district we can share news and information. Follow us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/plymouthctschools) or Twitter (@plymouthps). We hope to share as many of the great things that are happening in our schools on these two pages. One of our major goals is to ensure that we communicate as much as possible with our parents and students but with the community at large as well. Providing a free and appropriate public education to every school-aged child is a critical responsibility of every town. Therefore we hope to keep the great people of this town informed and updated in regards to our work.

If you have thoughts and ideas about topics for future communications in this column please do not hesitate to contact my office by calling (860) 314-4784.
