Reading Day

super

On March 1, 29 members of the school and surrounding community swarmed into both Plymouth Center and Fisher Elementary Schools to participate in our annual Reading Day.  For over 20 years, this annual celebration of reading commemorated the birth (March 2, 1904) of the beloved Dr. Seuss.  Every year, our students look forward to having a visitor join their class and read a favorite book for all to enjoy.  We truly appreciate the support we receive from our surrounding community to make this event a great success.  Mayor Merchant, Judge Barbara Aaron, and Chief Krasicky are just some of the individuals who shared themselves and their time with our curious students.

From instilling a love of reading, to building vocabulary, expanding creativity, and increasing empathy, reading aloud to children provides them tremendous benefits.  No matter your stage in life, you can affect a child greatly by transferring your love of reading to their young minds.  We are excited that we can offer this Reading Day to our students but we highly encourage you to read to your own children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as often as possible.  As a parent myself, I still remember reading to all three of my children and reminiscing about the joy it brought.  I even remember reading the instruction manual that I was using to assemble a piece of furniture to one of my infants.

If you are looking for some great books that you can read to your children, or they can read to you, take advantage of the books that come home with your kids.  Also, take advantage of the wonderful offerings at the children’s section of the Terryville Public Library.

We want to thank all of the school staff and members of the community who took part in this great day and thank the building leaders and staff for welcoming us into their classrooms.  Finally, a huge shout out to Jill Levandoski, our social worker for the elementary schools, who organized the day and helped all of the moving parts come together.  Included are some pictures from Reading Day 2017.
